True innovation in wood bat performance
Everything about RockBats is different - from the way the company started, to the approach they take with stock selection and the way bats are crafted ...even different in how they're labeled. It's a combination of innovations that equals performance - the kind of bat you want to get your hands on.
Among the innovations: sweet spot identification, FORCE Technology edge-orientation, slope of grain ink spot, composites featuring 3 woods, ends trimmed and cupped for fine-tuned balance performance.

Bat legend hangs up his tools
During the 10-15 years in which the lathe kept turning, TomCat baseball bats earned a well deserved reputation among elite pro-level and discerning amateur ballplayers throughout North America.
The reason for the reputation was not the select hard maple or yellow birch grown from the hardwood forests of northern New England and the eastern townships of Canada. It wasn't based on the careful standard for vacuum drying (to 6-8% moisture content). It was not a reputation built solely on innovations such as radial splining or biaxial weaving or the hamate grove, or the many other features which Tom Cat Bats introduced. Nor was it about the high standard in billet selection ...100% clear of defects and no cross grain, with only 10-15% of any run straight-grained enough to qualify for Tom Cat Pro bats.
No, what made a Tom Cat bat special was that each and every bat was lathed to exacting standards under the watchful eyes of Tom Roberts, master craftsman (that's him under the sawdust). The fine turning, the custom shaping, the careful staining and labelling, the personalization, was all handled by Tom himself.
If you own a Tom Cat, you know what it feels like to hold a bat with perfact balance and great swing characteristics. We have had more than one customer over the years, who would receive their bat, then not want to use it. Despite being crafted for game use, they became treasured keepsakes. Now more than ever.
Recently Tom switched from bat production for anyone, to custom crafting for only a select few. Now, unfortunately, due to serious illness, the lathe has stopped and Tom Roberts has had to put away his chisels for what might be the last time.
He is at last report recovering well from a stroke, but is unlikely to be back at the lathe. I wish him well in his recovery, and a long life away from the sawdust.
If you own a Tom Cat, consider yourself among the luckiest ballplayers in the game.
